Kill Switch

Post by jonasb » Sat Jul 22, 2017 8:27 pm

My team has encountered many issues with constructing our Kill Switch.

Although we purchased the parts necessary to build the one outlined in the Team Resources, we did not get a custom PCB in time and therefore do not have the ability to fabricate it in time.

We have tried to splice standard RC kill switches into our system, but none of them have worked for a wide range of reasons.

What are our options? Will there be kill switches available for teams to use at the competition provided by the judges / staff? Would we (if we absolutely had to) borrow one from another team?

We plan on continuing to troubleshoot the ones we have, but we are getting nervous so close to competition time.

Not sure why you are having problems. This kill switch design has been in use by teams for literally years without any issues. The Judges do not stock components for team vehicles. Potentially other teams might have spares that they could lend to you, but there is no guarantee that they will have unused backup equipment. For safety and reliability, it is essential that you have a kill switch circuit that meets minimum safety specifications prior to flight.

There are PC board fabricators online with very rapid turnaround times. It is not clear why this has become a last-minute issue.
