Robot's initial position

Post by JGflow » Mon Oct 14, 2013 7:49 pm

From my understanding of the rules, the UAV must be autonomous as it enters the arena. In this case, will we know the location the UAV will be starting from, or will initial localization be an issue as well?

Your aerial robot will enter the arena from designated points less than two meters just outside the white (right or left) boundary at the midline of the arena. You won't necessarily know which side of the arena will be used as the starting point and it could alternate from run to run so that the next team up can move into position while the previous team vacates the arena. The exact procedure will be explained by the Judges on the morning of the flight competition, but in general terms, it will be as described above.

UPDATE: See other responses to the starting location question in this section of the Forum, and in particular note the Official Rules. A substantive change has been instituted that requires all aerial robots start AUTONOMOUSLY from one of the FOUR CORNER SQUARES in the arena.
